An Update on A Nurse ‘Barbra’ Allegedly Stealing a Newborn Baby

UTH denies missing child’s mother, Ketai, the right to witness DNA sample collection.

An Update on A Kanyama Nurse ‘Barbra’ Allegedly Stealing a Newborn Baby (Read the previous story). THE University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) yesterday collected Ketai Mwale-Kangwa’s DNA samples in the ongoing alleged child-theft case.

Sources close to the development tell Zed Hits Promoss Media that Ketai, 37, was asked to visit the hospital for the collection of her DNA samples, to be compared with the lifeless body of an infant UTH claims is hers.

Yesterday morning, Ketai visited the hospital where UTH collected her DNA by scraping mouth skin cells. After this was done, sources say police officers, in the company of UTH medical staff, proceeded to collect DNA samples from the lifeless remains of the infant UTH claims is Ketai’s child.

The sources say when the mother attempted to tag along to witness the process, she was stopped and told that mothers were not allowed to witness the procedure unless accompanied by other relatives.

Concern has since been raised over how the extraction of DNA samples was administered.

According to the sources, if the child is indeed alive, and no family member witnessed which infant’s body the DNA samples were taken from, the results could still show a match regardless. They argue that without transparency, the process leaves room for manipulation.

They further state that the manner in which DNA samples were collected from the infant raises even more suspicion.

According to them, a postmortem was conducted on the infant claimed to be Ketai’s son without the presence of any family member.

“Our belief is that since this matter is being contested, all loopholes for suspicion should have been closed. Now, the same UTH where our child allegedly went missing is the same institution conducting tests to prove the child is ours and this is done without us witnessing the process. Results can be cooked,” the concerned source shared.

Despite the mother’s insistence on being present during the procedures, she was denied the opportunity to witness any stage of the process, leaving her with more questions than answers.

UTH reportedly assured Ketai that the DNA testing would be expedited to bring the matter to a quick conclusion and allow further investigations, if any, to follow.

Barbra Still Missing

As this unfolds, the nurse at the centre of the allegations, identified as Barbra, remains nowhere to be seen.

Multiple visits to both Kanyama Hospital and UTH have reportedly failed to produce her presence, with varying explanations being given about her whereabouts. Despite her central role in the transfer of the baby from Kanyama Hospital to UTH, she has not appeared before the family, hospital authorities, or investigators.

Her continued absence has deepened public suspicion and intensified concerns around accountability, transparency, and possible cover-ups. To date, no clear explanation has been provided as to why a key figure in such a serious matter has not been made available to assist investigations.

As it stands, the child has not been conclusively accounted for, the family remains unconvinced, and the nurse Barbra remains missing leaving this case unresolved and clouded by doubt.
